During the months of quarantine in 2020, while hidden away from most people and aspects of normal life I know and love, I befriended a family of mourning doves who were nesting outside my window. I studied them for hours a day – observing and making pictures through the screen. They seemed comfortable with me being there and allowed me to witness feeding time as well as first flights. It was such an intimate experience – getting to know their personalities. I truly looked forward to hearing their coos while the world outside was still so quiet. My Mourning Doves offered inspiration and calm during a frightening time.
